droneMitre has announced the eight finalists that will compete at the live flight test as part of the final round of the Countering Unauthorized Unmanned Aircraft Systems Challenge.

The finalists were selected out of 42 submissions for the C-UAS competition that seeks new systems designed to detect and interdict unauthorized, small drones that pose security or safety risks in urban areas, the nonprofit organization said Thursday.

The finalists include:

  • DeDrone for the DroneTracker system
  • Department 13 International for the Mesmer platform
  • Lockheed Martin for the Icarus system
  • MyDefence Communication ApS for the Knox platform
  • Open Works Engineering for the Skywall 100 tool
  • Radio Hill Technologies for the Dronebuster system
  • TrustComs for the DroneBlocker tool
  • Van Cleve & Associates for the DroneRanger system

Mitre will hold the eight-day live flight tests at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia that will run through Aug. 19 and will award $60,000 for the best end-to-end system, $20,000 for the best detection tool and another $20,000 for the best interdiction platform.

Mitre launched the contest in November 2015.
