NIC LogoNIC has partnered with Utah and Mississippi to unveil a new series voice-activated state government apps for the Amazon Echo designed to allow users to receive license alerts and take practice exams through the Alexa Voice Services.

NIC subsidiary Utah Interactive worked with the Utah’s departments of public safety and technology services to create a voice-based app that works to let citizens take driver’s license practice exams, NIC said Tuesday.

The company said another subsidiary Mississippi Interactive partnered with the Mississippi information technology services department to build an  Echo app for myMs, Mississippi’s alert and a reminder system that works to alert users on on license expirations and renewal dates.

“We know the future of speaking voice-activated commands rather than tapping a device screen or clicking a mouse will soon be mainstream,” said Robert Knapp, NIC chief operating officer.
