Teledyne TechnologiesOneWeb Satellites has awarded Teledyne Technologies’ defense business unit with a major supply contract to supply communications repeater equipment under the former’s Global Satellite Constellation initiative.

Teledyne said Friday that OneWeb Satellites’ initiative seeks to deploy 900 small satellites worldwide using Teledyne’s communications repeater equipment as part of its satellite payload that works to provide broadband internet access globally.

Robert Mehrabian, Teledyne chairman, president and CEO, said that Teledyne will play a part in OneWeb Satellites’ initiative to create a constellation of satellites that can provide global and affordable high-speed internet access.

The contract indicated the inclusion of an initial development phase with additional options for the manufacture of production quantities to reinforce the deployment of the satellites set in 2017, added Teledyne.

Teledyne Technologies’ defense business unit is based in the United Kingdom and is under the Teledyne Microwave Solutions group.
