droneThe Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has asked vendors to provide information on mobile layered defense platforms and related components designed to defend mobile and fixed naval and land-based forces against threats posed by small unmanned aircraft systems.

DARPA said in a request for information posted Aug. 11 on FedBizOpps it is interested in scalable systems, such as sensors and effectors, that will work to detect, monitor and neutralize hostile sUAS as well as conventional threats such as rocket, mortar and artillery.

The agency wants information on conceptual designs, system architecture and affordability, technology maturity levels and concept of operations of integrated mobile force protection systems and counter-sUAS subsystems.

DARPA said it will use RFI responses to determine participants in a planned workshop to be held in Arlington, Virginia, as well as develop future programs that could advance the creation of novel layered defense methods in support of mobile force protection missions.

Responses to the RFI are due Aug. 26, according to the notice.
