Keith Salzman, chief medical information officer at IBM‘s global business services unit, said an emerging ledger technology from Bitcoin software developer Blockchain can potentially help update healthcare information technology systems across the economy and in government.

Salzman wrote in a blog post published Tuesday the Blockchain technology uses cryptography to manage what network participants can view to fortify transaction security, verification and authentication.

The post noted Blockchain has introduced an enterprise service bus that tracks transactions through the ecosystems and attributes the movement of information to corresponding entities that act on a transaction.

Salzman added the technology currently is undergoing tests for use and extensibility or scaling in securities, trade financing, syndicated loans, supply chain, retail banking, public records and digital property management.
