Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $23.7 million contract by the Defense Logistics Agency to produce spares for company-built sensor technology installed on the U.S. Navy‘s F/A-18E/F aircraft fleet.
The IRST21 sensor works to detect and monitor airborne threats with the use of infrared search and track technology and displays high-resolution imagery of multiple targets visible to pilots, Lockheed said Thursday.
Paul Lemmo, vice president of Fire Control/SOF CLSS at Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business, said the Navy will receive the spares in conjunction with the low-rate initial production deliveries.
DLA awarded an initial $16 million IRST21 spares supply contract to the company last year.
The sensor system IRST21 has recorded more than 300,000 flight hours aboard the Navy’s F-14 and international F-15 platforms.
