ParsonsThe Missile Defense Agency has awarded Parsons two “bridge” contracts worth a combined $48 million to provide advisory and assistance services for MDA’s Ballistic Missile Defense System and Space and Directed Energy programs.

The Defense Department said Thursday the company will support Ballistic Missile Defense system architecture and engineering activities under the first contract valued at $40.8 million.

Work will occur through April 2017 and the effort is meant to complement the “Element Design & Build” systems engineering phase of the BMD initiative, DoD noted.

The second contract has a $7.2 million value and calls for Parsons to continue the company’s support for space and directed energy engineering functions at MDA.

Parsons is scheduled to finish work by August 2017.

MDA made the awards in an effort to address a services gap until the agency issues a follow-on contract through a competitive procurement, according to DoD.

The agency obligated a total of $11.9 million at the time of award from its fiscal 2016 research, development, test and evaluation funds.

Parsons will perform work on both contracts in Alabama, Colorado and the National Capital Region.
