mobile, cell with appsInternational Security and Defense Systems has selected a mobile application developed at Israel’s Ben-Gurion University of the Negev to secure attendees of the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil, Jewish Business News reported Monday.

The mobile app SayVU is available on Android devices and is designed to help users send a distress signal to an emergency hotline, the report said.

SayVU CEO Amotz Koskas said the app seeks to reduce emergency response time and that a hotline center has been set up at the Olympics to help emergency and law enforcement agencies maintain safety for Olympics attendees.

The app works to utilize machine learning technology to identify the user’s behavior pattern and detect irregularities; send voice and location information to the hotline; and provide real-time event reporting to relevant agencies, Jewish Business News reported.

SayVU has recently received a $1 million grant from the BIRD Foundation to support an emergency communications project funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Israel’s public security ministry, the report said.
