cyber, computerA Denmark-based BAE Systems subsidiary entered into an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to provide an internet surveillance product for deep packet inspection, The Intercept reported Friday.

Jenna McLaughlin writes Danish publication Dagbladet Information obtained documents from the Danish Business Authority that shows BAE Systems Applied Intelligence A/S‘ contract with UAE dates as far back as December 2014.

The contract provides information on a surveillance technology designed to support internet protocol monitoring and data analysis for crime and national security investigations, McLaughlin reports.

The report said BAE declined to comment on the contract and stated the company “works for a number of organizations around the world, within the regulatory frameworks of all relevant countries and within our own responsible trading principles.”

The Danish Business Authority told Dagbladet Information it approved the export license to UAE’s ministry of the interior after consultations with Denmark’s foreign affairs ministry, McLaughlin wrote.
