CyberStockA team led by the University of Texas at San Antonio has received a $3 million grant from the Department of Homeland Security under the agency’s Continuing Training Grants program to develop and deliver cybersecurity training courses.

UTSA said Tuesday its team will create curriculum on present and emerging cyber threats in an effort to address areas such as information sharing, analysis organization and information sharing operations, malware response and recovery, cybersecurity fundamentals, defense, incident response and recovery techniques.

Greg White, director of UTSA’s Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security and professor of computer science; and Natalie Sjelin, associate director of training programs for CIAS; will lead the team in support of the National Preparedness Goal.

Sjelin said the university will develop the training courses to help provide states, locals, territories and tribes with devices that will support their cybersecurity postures.

UTSA has worked with DHS and the Federal Emergency Management Agency since 2004 and received the CTG grant through a competitive selections process.

Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) said UTSA will aid first responders and state and local governments against cyberattacks through the funds.
