electronics-motherboard-microchip_EBizThe Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has launched a new process to encourage companies that have limited contracting experience with the Defense Department to propose novel technology platforms that could have potential applications for the commercial sector and DoD.

DARPA’s microsystems technology office introduced the Commercial Performer Program Announcement in an effort to provide funding opportunities for companies that have had less than $50 million in DoD contracts in the past year, DARPA said Wednesday.

The agency’s MTO has asked potential vendors to respond to several questions, such as the potential use of Internet of Things-based sensor platforms in defense-related applications as well as novel technologies that could be applied in cybersecurity and data processing operations.

Interested companies should also provide information on wireless platforms designed to facilitate use of the electromagnetic spectrum as well as new electronics that could be integrated with both software and hardware.

DARPA will use the “other transactional” authority to award contracts and expects to receive submissions with a maximum 10-page limit.

Responses to the program announcement are due Oct. 4, 2017, according to a FedBizOpps notice posted Wednesday.
