electronic health record EHRThe National Institutes of Health has asked industry to provide information on scientific data sharing and management methods as well as standards for software and data citation.

NIH issued the request for information as part of the implementation of the agency’s Plan for Increasing Access to Scientific Publications and Digital Scientific Data from NIH Funded Scientific Research that was issued in February 2015, NIH said in a notice posted Nov. 17.

NIH wants insights on the types of digital scientific information to be shared, time frame for the availability of such data for secondary research purposes, and barriers to data sharing and stewardship.

The agency also seeks information on the potential impact of citing data and software in research performance progress reports and grant applications as well as components of technical guidance for data citation in reports to NIH.

These components include the use of a persistent unique identifier in the data and software citation, granularity of data citations and inclusion of a link in the software and data resource.

Responses to the RFI are due Dec. 29, according to the notice.
