Parsons-Supported US Military Base Microgrid Project Receives Federal Award - top government contractors - best government contracting event

A Parsons-supported microgrid technology demonstration project at various U.S. military bases has won a 2016 Federal Energy and Water Management Award from the Energy Department.

The Smart Power Infrastructure Demonstration for Energy Reliability and Security Joint Capability Technology Demonstration project aimed to build systems for military organizations to increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint at their installations, Parsons said Thursday.

Parsons provided design, construction and cybersecurity and network design support for the SPIDERS JCTD, which was a collaborative effort of DOE and the departments of Defense and Homeland Security.

The project involved the synchronization of backup power supplies with a photovoltaic array at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii, the addition of grid cybersecurity systems to Fort Carson in Colorado and the demonstration of a microgrid system for long-term power supply at Camp Smith in Hawaii.

“SPIDERS is an important step toward greater energy efficiency and the security of our nation’s energy assets,” said Tom Roell, Parsons vice chairman and group president.

“I am proud of our teams’ contributions to this project, which will help to ensure a continuous energy supply to our military bases,” Roell added.
