HPE's Rob Roy Lists 2017 Federal Cyber Priorities - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRob Roy, chief technology officer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise‘s U.S. federal cybersecurity team, has listed what he sees as the top five cyber priorities across the federal government for 2017.

The priorities include cyber workforce, industry partnerships, information technology acquisition and modernization, data protection and Internet of Things security, according to a company blog post published Thursday.

Roy said the federal government will prioritize efforts to acquire cyber talent since it is key to boost operations and achieve security goals.

He added that the federal chief information security officer should work with the industry to help protect agencies from cyber threats.

The government allocated the largest cybersecurity fund in history for 2017 which will support the procurement of more modernized equipment, Roy noted.

Roy said the government could engage industry experts in efforts to implement information sharing practices and accelerate response times against breaches.

Agencies should apply “proactive” counter measures such as format preserving encryption and behavioral monitoring to mitigate attacks, Roy added.

He noted the government should implement devices to verify IoT security and prevent unauthorized access to networks.
