Marine Corps OKs Magpul's Polymer-Based Magazine for Combat & Training - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe U.S. Marine Corps has cleared Magpul Industries‘ polymer-based magazine for combat and training applications, Military Times reported Sunday.

Shawn Snow writes the Marine Corps Systems Command said Magpul’s GenM3 PMAG was the only magazine that met performance requirements across all combinations of the service branch’s 5.56mm rifles and ammunition during tests.

“The specification to use ‘only tested, approved, and authorized magazines’ was born from the Combat Marksmanship Symposium of 2012 where it was discussed that there were performance concerns with the many commercial magazines being observed during annual weapons qualifications,” MARCORSYSCOM told the publication.

The report said the U.S. Army and Marine Corps will only use magazines tested by the Primary Inventory Control Activity until further notice since both services have yet to develop new ammunitions or magazines.

Magpul’s GenM3 magazines are designed to be compatible with Infantry Automatic Rifles, M4, M16A4 and all other 5.56mm rifles, the report stated.
