Heidi Shyu, former assistant secretary of the U.S. Army for acquisition, logistics and technology, has joined Roboteam as chairman of the board of directors.

The tactical ground robotic systems provider said Monday Shyu will mentor the management team and lead company strategic efforts to grow its unmanned ground vehicle business.

“Heidi’s intimate knowledge and deep understanding of our business and unique needs of our military and law enforcement customers will help drive our dedicated and talented team of engineers to develop the most relevant technology for life-saving missions,” said Roboteam CEO Shahar Abuhazira.

Shyu was appointed into Roboteam’s advisory board in July 2016 and also serves on the board of the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute led by Carnegie Mellon University’s American Robotics arm.

As the Army acquisition chief, she was in charge of 12 program executive offices and more than 42,000 acquisition professionals at the service branch.

She has also worked at Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Litton Industries and Hughes Aircraft.
