LeoLabs Raises Funds for Space Debris & Satellite Tracking Service - top government contractors - best government contracting eventLeoLabs has raised $4 million in a funding round to support an expansion of its cloud-based space debris and satellite tracking service.

The investment round engaged global investors such as SRI International, Horizons Ventures and Airbus Group‘s early-stage investment arm Airbus Ventures, LeoLabs said Monday.

LeoLabs will use the funds to expand its ground-based radar infrastructure and support engagements with commercial and government customers.

LeoLabs CEO Dan Ceperley said the company aims to address collision and navigation risks posed by space debris on satellites in the low-Earth orbit.

Mike Nicolls, LeoLabs chief technology officer, said the company currently works to monitor approximately 13,000 objects and that the expansion of the radar network is intended to help track 250,000 objects.

LeoLabs’ radar technology was originally created for SRI International’s research effort that sought to investigate Earth’s ionosphere.

The company added the Midland Space Radar site in Midland, Texas to its network of ground-based facilities.
