Northrop to Help Air Force Test North Pole EHF Satcom System - top government contractors - best government contracting eventNorthrop Grumman has received a $22.6 million contract modification from the U.S. Air Force to provide testing support for a system designed to manage strategic and tactical satellites communications in the North Polar region.

The Defense Department said Friday Northrop’s information systems unit will help the military branch test the Enhanced Polar System Control and Planning Segment ahead of the system’s initial operational capability.

Work also covers cybersecurity, information assurance and security technical implementation guide updates.

EPS will consist of extremely high frequency satcom payloads, modified advanced EHF terminals, a gateway designed to connect polar users with communication systems such as the Global Information Grid and a CPS to aid management of EPS satellites.

The Space and Missile Systems Center obligated $10.1 million at the time of modification award from the Air Force’s fiscal 2017 research, development, test and evaluation funds.

Work will occur in Redondo Beach, California, through Dec. 15, 2018.
