David Turner

David Turner, a retired U.S. Army brigadier general, will officially join American Water on Nov. 20 as president of the water and wastewater utility company’s military services business group.

The more than 20-year Army veteran will succeed Todd Duerr, who is due to leave the company Jan. 1, 2018, American Water said Tuesday.

Turner will lead MSG’s efforts to support water treatment and supply programs at military bases through the federal government’s Utility Privatization Program.

He previously served as commander of the Army Corps of Engineers’ South Atlantic Division and South Pacific Division; chief of staff at USACE headquarters and the Combined Joint Interagency Task Force in Afghanistan; chief of the Base Realignment and Closure Division; and commander of the Far East Engineer District in Seoul, South Korea.

He also held the positions of assistant deputy director of operations, emergency action officer, global nuclear strike adviser and senior operations officer at the Joint Staff.

His military decorations include a Distinguished Service Medal, three Legion of Merit awards and two Bronze Star medals.
