CA Unveils Open Source Software Challenge to Advance Federal ‘Citizen Experience’ - top government contractors - best government contracting eventCA Technologies has announced a competition that aims to encourage U.S. developers to present novel open source software-based platforms designed to enhance the “citizen experience” across federal agencies.

The company said Wednesday up to five finalists will be selected for the CA Smart Government Challenge and will receive $5,000 in cash prizes.

The finalists will have a chance to compete for the $75,000 grand prize and participate in a boot camp session under the CA Accelerator program.

CA Accelerator is a venture capital fund-like incubator unveiled in 2016 that works to provide support and funds to startups and innovators to help bring their software offerings to market.

Otto Berkes, CA chief technology officer and founder of CA Accelerator, will lead a panel of judges that will select the finalists based on several criteria such as citizen value, use of DevOps/agile development methods, market opportunity and impact on government efficiency.

Berkes said the company expects the challenge to result in new ideas that will work to support government information technology modernization and help complement federal programs.

CA will accept Lean Canvas-style business plan submissions and other applications from interested participants from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31 and select the finalists in February 2018 with a plan to announce the grand prize winner in August 2018.
