Vericor to Produce Engines for Navy Amphibious Landing Craft - top government contractors - best government contracting eventVericor Power Systems has been awarded a potential $32.1 million contract to manufacture, test and deliver marine gas turbine engines for the U.S. Navy‘s Landing Craft Air Cushion vehicles.

The Defense Department said Wednesday that Vericor will provide ETF40B engines for the LCAC service life extension program.

DoD added the engines will be supplied to the program’s prime contractor for integration into current LCAC amphibious landing craft.

LCACs are designed to transport U.S. Marine Corps Air-Ground Task Force weapons, equipment, cargo and personnel from ship to shore and across the beach.

The Navy aims to extend the service life of LCAC by 10 years, sustain craft capability, replace obsolete electronics, repair corrosion damage, update maintenance equipment, increase survivability and establish a common configuration baseline through the SLEC initiative.

Vericor is scheduled to finish contract work by April 2020 and the service branch obligated $19.2 million in fiscal 2017 shipbuilding and conversion funds at the time of award.

Alpharetta, Georgia-based Vericor Power Systems produces aeroderivative turbines designed for marine propulsion, mechanical drive or power generation systems.
