A General Atomics business unit has received a potential three-year, $49.3 million task order from the U.S. Air Force to develop, field and sustain the software for MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems will develop the MQ-9 software for the Air Force Special Operations Command and Air Combat Command, the Defense Department said Friday.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center will obligate $9.9 million at the time of award from the service branch’s fiscal 2017 and fiscal 2018 research and development funds.

The order falls under a previously awarded basic ordering agreement and runs through Jan. 31, 2020.
