3M Subsidiary Gets Additional Army Ballistic Helmet Order - top government contractors - best government contracting eventA 3M subsidiary has received a $34 million in contract funds from the U.S. Army to produce additional ballistic helmets for the service branch.

The new order brings the potential value of Ceradyne‘s Integrated Head Protection System supply contract with the Army to more than $52 million, 3M said Thursday.

IHPS works to protect soldiers against battlefield threats such as  handgun bullets and rifle projectiles.

The system is equipped with passive hearing protection technology and designed to integrate with a modular ballistic applique, night vision goggles, mandible, rails and visor.

Ceradyne developed IHPS through the Army’s Soldier Protection System program that aims to reduce equipment load and increase protection for soldiers.

The company will deliver the systems to the service branch throughout the year.
