Cubic Report: Public Transit Agencies Should Lead Mobility-as-a-Service Tech Devt - top government contractors - best government contracting eventCubic has released a new white paper that says public transit should be at the forefront of discussions on Mobility-as a-Service technologies.

Matt Cole, president of Cubic’s transportation systems arm, authored the report titled “MaaS: Putting Transit Front and Center of the Conversation,” which was unveiled at the American Public Transportation Association’s three-day legislative conference that kicked off on Sunday in Washington, D.C., Cubic said Monday.

The company noted that public transit authorities must take a lead role in the development of MaaS platforms to help address challenges facing cities such as congestion, density, safety, security, social inclusion and the need for integrated regulation, coordination and policy.

“The early adopters of MaaS were almost exclusively private mobility providers and so the industry has come to consider MaaS a private sector initiative,” said Cole.

“We hope this white paper will help our customers, partners, and the transit industry at large, revisit their assumptions about MaaS and encourage an open discussion about public transit as the backbone of MaaS,” he added.

Cole noted that MaaS platforms could bring benefits to cities, communities and transit agencies if public transit is at the core of development.
