Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson told CNBC in an interview posted Wednesday that she believes the company will continue to be a part of every mission to Mars.

Hewson mentioned the InSight lander and the Orion deep space exploration spacecraft as two of Lockheed’s projects with NASA that seek to support the company’s involvement in future missions to the red planet.

InSight, which is scheduled to lift off in May, “will be assessing the environment of Mars and providing data back that helps us to have better information on how the Earth was formed,” she said.

She noted about new commercial enterprises in the space sector and how such companies help advance talent recruitment efforts and promote innovation in support of space programs.

Hewson, a 2018 Wash100 recipient, said she envisions a “multi-domain, network-centric environment” where space, aerial, ground, maritime and cyber elements would be engaged in the future battle space and cited the need to invest in capabilities that could help clients address challenges across those domains.
