Report: NASA Studies ISS Commercial Use Opportunities - top government contractors - best government contracting eventNASA is exploring ways to create more opportunities for commercial entities to use the International Space Station, Space.com reported Monday.

Robyn Gatens, ISS deputy director at NASA, said during an agency presentation that NASA has begun to develop policy and study the required legal or programmatic changes to expand the commercial use of ISS.

The space station prohibits pure for-profit activities such as advertising and marketing, Gatens noted.

Commercial operations involving ISS are currently limited to technology research and development as well as cargo and crew transportation missions.

Gatens added that industry might eventually take over ISS operations and that the Trump administration wants to transition the space laboratory to a commercial management model.
