Viasat Debuts Satcom System for Government, Military Operations - top government contractors - best government contracting eventViasat introduced its satellite communications system and ground networking technologies for military and government applications at the 2018 Satellite Show that kicked off Monday in Washington, D.C.

The company said Monday it showcased the ViaSat-2 platform to U.S. military representatives and the technology’s cloud-based government applications earlier this month.

The speed of broadband connection with ViaSat-2 exceeded 100 megabits per second during the demonstration event.

The system is built to help users stream 4K, high-definition and live two-way conference videos; transmit voice over internet protocol calls; manage command-and-control and situational awareness communications; and process intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data.

ViaSat-2 employs the Active Cyber Defense technology designed to address distributed denial-of-service attacks and the Satellite Access Node gateway intended to facilitate continuous operations in the event of a gateway failure.

The company noted its “Best Available Network” concept seeks to help military customers connect to the Wideband Global SATCOM system, as well as Ku- and Ka-band networks.

The network is meant to support multinetwork roaming for terminals and operate with ground, maritime and airborne platforms.
