President Trump has nominated U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Christopher Grady as commander of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command and for promotion to the rank of admiral, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

Grady currently leads the Sixth Fleet; Task Force Six; Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO; and the Joint Force Maritime Component, having assumed his duties in October 2016. He concurrently serves as deputy commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and U.S. Naval Forces Africa.

Grady has held various leadership positions aboard the USS Moosbrugger, USS Princeton,  USS Chief, USS Ardent and USS Cole. He also commanded the 22nd Destroyer Squadron during Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom operations in the Arabian Gulf region.

The joint specialty officer’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with four gold stars and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
