Mike Petters, president and CEO of Huntington Ingalls Industries, has said the company had booked contracts for approximately 25 combat ships at the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2018, the National Interest reported Saturday.

“By the end of 2020, if all goes as planned, we will see a significant amount of contracting activity that is expected to result in the award of base contracts or options to be exercised for 20 to 30 ships,” Petters told investors.

Those vessels include the CVN 80 and 81 aircraft carriers; NSC 10 and 11 cutter ships; Virginia-class submarine block V; LPD Flight II amphibious transport dock; and the multiyear procurement program for the DDG 51 Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer.

He said the company expects to complete work on the DDG 117 missile destroyer, NSC 7 cutter ship and LHA 7 America-class amphibious assault ship by the second half of 2018.

The report said HII plans to build up production efforts by making a capital investment of approximately $1.8 billion in shipbuilding facilities.
