United Technologies Corp.‘s Pratt & Whitney division has created a business unit that aims to help military customers develop engine technology prototypes.

GatorWorks comprises cross-functional teams, a vertical integration system and multiple suppliers and partners, Pratt & Whitney said Tuesday.

Matthew Bromberg, president of military engines at Pratt & Whitney, said the newly formed unit seeks to change the estimated 20-year development cycle for standard large engines through rapid innovation approaches.

Bromberg added the propulsion technology maker looks to collaborate with commercial enterprises to design, procure and test technology products for customers.

GatorWorks has been developing a suite of technology products since the unit became operational early this year.
