Air Force Meets With SpaceX to Discuss Potential Space Cargo Operations - top government contractors - best government contracting eventGen. Maryanne Miller, commander of the Air Mobility Command, has disclosed that the U.S. Air Force has met with SpaceX to discuss the possibility of conducting space-based cargo delivery operations, Defense News reported Saturday.

The Air Force is considering using SpaceX’s Big Falcon Rocket reusable launch vehicle, which is still under development, for cargo services in space.

However, Miller told reporters in a roundtable that AMC has not made finals plans and that the command will still meet with SpaceX and other space companies to discuss their future plans.

“We won’t commit any resources, but we’ve committed to work with them to see how quickly they progress through that,” she added.

The discussion comes as the Air Force seeks to assign space cargo operations to AMC despite the possible impact of a new Space Force on mobility efforts.

Air Force Gen. Carlton Everhart, former commander of AMC, also said in August that military cargo efforts could become a reality in five to 10 years, led by private companies.
