AT&T has received a potential five-year contract from the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide wireless communications services for VA’s more than 34K mobile devices nationwide.

The company said Monday the contract covers Wi-Fi, tethering, air cards and hotspot services; data and voice services through the company’s 4G LTE network; mobile devices; and customer support.

“We’re helping VA move forward with its technology modernization efforts in alignment with its strategic plan,” said Rob Dapkiewicz, vice president of civilian segment within AT&T’s public sector business.

VA will also get access to a national broadband network for public safety personnel that AT&T and the First Responder Network Authority are currently building via a public-private partnership.
