Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg told FOX Business in an interview aired Tuesday that he believes U.S. spending on defense will remain robust amid calls for reduced budget and concerns over increasing federal deficit.

“We see the defense budget here in the U.S. being sustained,” he told Maria Bartiromo of the channel’s “Mornings with Maria.”

“If you look back a couple of years when we were in the middle of sequestration, we feel like we’re in a stronger budget position now on both sides of the aisle.”

Muilenburg noted that Boeing sees a lot of growth opportunities for its defense segment abroad.

“Today, about a third of our defense backlog is outside the U.S. so this is a very global business,” he added.
