Boeing has received a $43M modification to an existing contract for the delivery of extra large unmanned undersea vehicles to the U.S. Navy.

The company will fabricate, test and deliver four Orca vehicles and provide complementary support services, the Department of Defense said Wednesday.

The vehicles will feature a modular, open architechture and is designed to provide control, navigation, situational awareness, communications and power distribution for naval forces.

The service branch will immediately obligate the full modification amount from research, development, test and evaluation funds for fiscal 2019.

The Navy selected Boeing and Lockheed Martin in 2017 to separately develop underwater drones under the Orca XLUUV program.
