Oracle Joins NSF-Backed Cloud Project to Advance Scientific Research - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Oracle has taken part in a National Science Foundation-funded project that aims to develop cloud capabilities to support scientific computing research and related applications.

Oracle said Tuesday nonprofit technology organization Internet2 will oversee the two phases of the Exploring Clouds for Acceleration of Science project to explore the capabilities of cloud platforms for research and computational science.

The first phase of E-CAS will back six initiatives with engineering and scientific applications and two of those efforts will be funded for a year to assess their scientific impact.

Jenny Tsai-Smith, vice president of curriculum development at Oracle, said the company’s collaboration with NSF and Internet2 on E-CAS would help research and education institutions gain access to cloud capabilities to advance scientific discoveries.

Oracle works with Internet2 on the latter’s NET+ program under an agreement with Mythics to provide research organizations an opportunity to use Oracle’s computing platforms to access a network linking universities to federal and state agencies.
