The San Jose, Calif., government has partnered with AT&T to implement an internet-of-things technology throughout the city’s public areas.

AT&T said Tuesday it will also allocate $200K to support the local community’s efforts to provide digital access and literacy training to residents.

As part of the agreement, the company will install approximately 100 public Wi-Fi extenders, 15 public safety infrastructure nodes and 600 smart LED lighting systems with energy-efificiency features across 14 city parks.

The San Jose area currently deploys the AT&T-developed First Responder Network Authority Band 14 spectrum intended for public safety communications.

AT&T's previous IoT implementation support efforts in California added $45.8M to the state economy.
