A new Fortinet report shows that cyber criminals are increasingly leveraging anti-analysis and evasion techniques to prevent detection.

The company said Tuesday the quarterly Global Threat Landscape Report found that ransomware continues to move to more targeted attacks on local governments, cities and education systems.

The report also cited RobbinHood and Sodinokibi as some of the ransomware that could pose a series threat to organizations.

“The ever-widening breadth and sophistication of cyber adversaries’ attack methods is an important reminder of how they are attempting to leverage speed and connectivity to their advantage,” said Phil Quade, chief information security officer at Fortinet.

“A security fabric approach across every security element that embraces segmentation and integration, actionable threat intelligence, and automation combined with machine learning is essential to enable these fundamentals to bear fruit,” Quade added.

Fortinet’s Threat Landscape Index for the second quarter of calendar year 2019 closed at nearly 4 percent higher than the same period last year, driven by exploit activity and increased malware.
