Iridium Communications has received a potential five-year, $76M contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency to update servers, network infrastructure and equipment for the Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services Gateway.

The company will provide technical and life cycle upgrade services to the Department of Defense's EMSS program under the single-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, DoD said Friday.

Work will take place at Iridium's facilities in Arizona and Virginia as well as the EMSS Gateway site. The IDIQ has a one-year base period that will conclude by Sept. 27, 2020, followed by 12-month options.

DISA stated its intent to approach Iridium for the sole-source acquisition activity in July of last year via a FedBizOpps notice.

The McLean, Va.-based company will also continue to provide maintenance and support services for the EMSS Gateway under a separate $54M contract awarded in April.

EMSS is designed to support global communications for U.S. warfighters and DoD partner agencies through Iridium's satellite network.
