Rob Davies, executive vice president of operations at ViON, wrote in a GCN article published Tuesday that there are four features cloud managers should look for in a multicloud management tool and one is broad applicability.

Organizations should look for a platform that can manage various cloud types including private and public cloud platforms, hyperconverged infrastructure, as-a-service offerings and existing infrastructure.

“For private cloud management, the interface tool should be able to manage private clouds even in co-located facilities,” he added.

Davies said administrators should field a multicloud management tool that can manage workloads to meet storage and computing demands. The tool should also have reporting and governance features.

“When agencies have 30 or more contracts and multiple OEMs with overlapping services, support teams, and SLAs, the governance and reporting features of a single-pane-of-glass multicloud management tool become not just convenient, but essential,” Davies wrote.
