Collins Aerospace Demos Air-Ground Radio Communications With MUOS Satellites

Collins Aerospace has tested voice communications with the Mobile User Objective System satellite network.

The company said Monday it demonstrated audio transmissions between ARC-210 software-defined airborne radio and the PRC-162 tactical ground radio via MUOS.

This test marks the Collins’ first completed MUOS demonstration between the company’s own airborne and ground radios.

Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of communication, navigation and guidance solutions at Collins Aerospace, said that the company has developed military radios “that will bring the benefits of MUOS communications capabilities to the warfighter, which include improved security, mobility, and access.”

MUOS allows the users to operate the radios with boosted interoperability and access streamlined logistics for potential repairs and other needs. The U.S. military deploys MUOS to facilitate ground and air communications in ultra high frequency.
