Spear Power Systems produced and delivered a battery to help the U.S. Air Force operate a counter-unmanned aerial system technology from Raytheon.

The Air Force plans to use the CUAS platform with Spear's lithium-ion battery in training and testing activities that will take place overseas, the company said Tuesday.

Raytheon developed the high-energy laser weapon as part of a $23.8M contract award in August and delivered the first HELWS to the service branch earlier this month.

The system was integrated onto a small all-terrain vehicle.

Jeff Kostos, president and CEO of Spear, said the company made its battery “small and lightweight” in order to help Raytheon make the CUAS unit mobile.
