The U.S. government has renamed Lockheed Martin’s solid state radar platform to reflect the features and maturity of the device.

The AN/SPY-7(V)1 modular solid state radar works to deliver continuous surveillance and is set for installation into the Aegis Combat System, the company said Thursday.

Lockheed updated the system with the Aegis Ashore suite to optimize the radar’s capacity to detect and repel ballistic missile attacks. The Royal Canadian Navy and the Spanish Navy are slated to field AN/SPY-7(V)1 variants for their respective programs.

Paul Lemmo, vice president and general manager at Lockheed, said that the radar “meets the mission now and is flexible to adapt to the evolving threats of the future.”
