Collins Aerospace Systems will be working on boosting the aircraft efficiency of U.S. Special Operations Command.

USSOCOM selected Collins and two other firms to pursue this effort, Collins said Tuesday. The firms will provide specialized mission processor prototypes to address obsolescence, update and boost the processing power of the AC/MC-130J aircraft.

The company will provide the Collins Aerospace Assured Multicore system, an open-architecture product, to support the effort's computing power needs.

The prototype SMP’s built-in compatibility allows for interoperability with third-party and off-the-shelf software.

Collins will deliver its first SMP prototype in summer next year.
