International Gov't Execs Discuss Cloud-First Policies, IT Modernization at AWS re:Invent - top government contractors - best government contracting event

More than 300 government officials from 40 countries joined the three-day Amazon Web Services Government Delegation Program at re:Invent in Las Vegas to discuss the barriers to digital transformation and ways to address such challenges.

Change-resistant organizational culture, insufficient workforce skills and restrictive regulations were among the barriers cited by public sector leaders, AWS said Monday.

Government leaders from various countries also discussed procurement mechanisms and how cloud-first policies could help agencies expedite modernization.

Teresa Carlson, vice president of worldwide public sector at AWS and a 2019 Wash100 award winner, joined Max Peterson, VP of international public sector sales at AWS, during a fireside chat to discuss the status of information technology modernization in the public sector and how governments worldwide advance cloud adoption. She mentioned opportunities for government clients to build up new tech talent and improve the skills of their personnel by taking advantage of AWS Educate and other programs.
