Andy Green, president of Huntington Ingalls Industries’ technical solutions division and a 2020 Wash100 award winner, said the move to acquire Kongsberg Maritime’s Hydroid subsidiary complements HII’s previous activities in the unmanned underwater vehicles market, the Daily Press reported Tuesday.

These include HII’s 2015 acquisition of a Florida-based maker of an undersea vehicle called Proteus and its partnership with Boeing to develop Orca, an extra-large UUV.

HII agreed to purchase Hydroid for approximately $350M and will integrate the Pocasset, Mass.-based marine robotics systems provider into its technical solutions division once it completes the transaction by the first quarter of 2020.

Green said HII and Kongsberg have teamed up to jointly market other platforms and services.

“They bring a lot of maritime technology to the table that we can potentially market to our existing customers,” he said of Kongsberg.
