In-Q-Tel, the intelligence community’s venture capital arm, has invested in Canberra, Australia-based QuintessenceLabs to help the latter expand its portfolio of quantum cybersecurity offerings.

“QuintessenceLabs is successfully harnessing quantum physics to address hard security problems in both today’s environment and in future environments that may well include a credible quantum computing threat,” Mike Ferrari, co-managing director of IQT Australia, said in a statement published Wednesday.

In addition to the investment, QuintessenceLabs also launched its qStream Plus Quantum Entropy Appliance, which is designed to ensure the security and enterprise-level performance of applications through the integration of entropy management software with the high-speed quantum random number generation system.

Vikram Sharma, founder and CEO of QuintessenceLabs, said the IQT investment recognizes the company’s quantum cybersecurity capabilities and their importance to the national security community.

QuintessenceLabs also offers crypto-agile key and policy manager, second-generation quantum key distribution and integrated encryption platforms in addition to quantum random number generators.
