The Missile Defense Agency is looking for a potential contractor to provide Standard Missile-3 ballistic missile interceptor rounds and support the technology's integration into U.S. Navy vessels and Aegis Ashore combat facilities in Europe.

The agency said in a request for information posted Tuesday on the beta SAM website that its Sea Based Weapons Systems office is seeking information on SM-3 Block IIA production and delivery services ahead of starting work on the potential nine-year contract by fiscal 2021.

Contract work also covers engineering and testing services such as program management, logistics, obsolescence monitoring and analysis support for ground and flight tests.

MDA could enact a sole-source procurement if “there are no other industry interests”, according to the notice.

The Raytheon-developed SM-3 interceptor is designed to defeat short- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles as a central weapon for the European Phased Adaptive Approach program.

SM-3 Block IIA is meant to support  EPAA Phase III and utilize updated kinetic warhead and hit-to kill technologies to defeat ballistic missile threats, the notice states.

MDA will accept responses to the RFI through June 17.
