ECS executives Aaron Burciaga and Steve Ahern wrote in a blog post published Wednesday that for the Department of Defense to enable data visibility, accessibility and interoperability, it needs tools, processes and people knowledgeable of data usage and analytics.

Burciaga, vice president of analytics and artificial intelligence at ECS, and Ahern, director at the company, added that DOD has set a strategy for the development of a data program aimed at making all data linked, secure, trustworthy and understandable to provide the department with better operational efficiency.

DOD needs to associate its definition of readiness to data strategy as it acknowledges that data is a key technological paradigm shift, according to the executives.

Burciaga and Ahern cited the company's ways of measuring data readiness. Data and analytics dictionaries and standards for documentation; and data and analytics manager steering councils are two of those.

"[ECS] data professionals have over a decade of experience creating and delivering automated data operations and readiness systems that enable data quality and governance," they said.
