Executive Mosaic is glad to introduce John Mengucci, president and CEO of CACI International as a 2021 Wash100 Award recipient. This represents his second consecutive year that Mengucci has received the most prestigious award in all of government contracting (GovCon) for driving technology capabilities.

For his first Wash100 Award win, Mengucci received recognition for growing the company’s revenue through valuable contract awards and tactful acquisitions after he succeeded Ken Asbury, fellow six-time Wash100 Award winner, as president and CEO of CACI in July 2019 after serving for seven years as the company’ chief operating officer.

In a November 2019 interview with Inside Defense, Mengucci emphasized technology as an important focus for CACI’s growth strategy and that he would continue to work on the company’s portfolio and expand it through mergers and acquisitions a priority.

Throughout 2020, Mengucci’s leadership and growth strategy led to significant contracts and expansion, including a $249 million Africom support contract in March 2020 as well as a five-year, $465 million task order to develop network security platforms for the U.S. Army’s command, control, computer, communications, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance center in May 2020.

Most notably, Mengucci’s efforts led to CACI receiving a potential 10-year, $1.5 billion contract in June 2020 to provide information technology assistance to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and its partners as part of efforts to fortify NGA’s cybersecurity posture. He said that the award reflects the company’s commitment to protecting critical networks that support the agency’s mission-critical geospatial intelligence operations.

It was announced in Aug. 2020 that CACI had also acquired Ascent Vision Technologies. Mengucci explained that synergies between the companies would expand multidomain intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and counter-unmanned aircraft technology offerings for the defense and national security markets.

Mengucci told employees, shareholders and customers in April 2020 as the whole world began to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic that the company intended to remain “ever vigilant” amid changing global business dynamics and ensure the health and safety of its workforce.

For its fiscal 2020 ended June 30, CACI earned $5.75 billion in revenue — up 14.7 percent from the previous year — and booked $11.6 billion in contract awards, with more than 55 percent representing new business for the company.

“Amid the headwinds from COVID-19, we achieved our financial commitments, delivering accelerating organic revenue growth, margin expansion, robust cash flow, and double-digit growth in contract awards and backlog,” Mengucci said in August 2020.

In addition, CACI secured additional contracts over the course of the year. The company received a separate $112 million task order under the Army Responsive Strategic Sourcing for Services vehicle, or RS3, to perform systems engineering, data collection and simulation work and secured a $63 million NETCENTS-2 task order to modernize the branch’s infrastructure across the Pacific theater of operations.

The Army also awarded a $128 million task order in August to procure training and field service support from the company for soldier-borne systems equipped with an imaging or a laser technology. CACI currently holds a position on the U.S. Air Force’s five-year, $950 million contract for technology development projects to support the Joint All Domain Command and Control concept.

Other significant bookings for the company during the second half of 2020 include a $152 million contract to modernize financial systems at the Department of Veterans Affairs, a $450 million blanket purchase agreement for desktop services to the Department of Homeland Security and a $160M task order to support Air Force Central Command’s network operations and security center.

Also last year, CACI obtained approval for its Corian platform to protect Department of Defense assets from small unmanned aircraft systems and received a Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. Fortune magazine ranked CACI seventh among information technology providers for the publication’s 2020 list of World’s Most Admired Companies.

Executive Mosaic congratulates John Mengucci on his second consecutive Wash100 Award. His focus, vision and leadership are heavy influences over CACI’s market growth and portfolio expansion as well as drivers of excellence for the government contracting (GovCon) industry and it’s community.
