Cubic's transportation systems business has released a mobile application designed to allow contactless fare payments for commuters in Los Angeles County in California.

Commuters may now use the TAP application on the Android operating system to pay fares virtually by holding their mobile devices near TAP validators within trains and buses, the company said Friday.

Users may also plan their journeys and manage their TAP accounts as well as multimodal programs via the app.

The app covers 25 TAP transit agencies within the county.

Jeff Lowinger, president of Cubic's transportation systems unit, said the company teamed up with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to streamline the travel process for Metro commuters.

The app was offered on iPhone and Apple Watch in September.
